The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer supports the safe and sustainable operation of the Unilever Hammond Dove Bar Soap Factory by applying technical expertise, analytical capability, and on‑the‑floor engagement to reduce risk and advance the site’s Vision Zero—our commitment to achieving zero harm to people, equipment, and the environment. In this hands‑on engineering position, you will partner closely with the EHS Manager and cross‑functional teams to implement systems, strengthen standards, and drive continuous improvement across all safety, health, and environmental programs.
Job Responsibility:
Actively promotes safe behaviors across the site through daily presence on production floors and direct engagement with operators and technicians
Reinforce expectations and help translate safety principles into practical actions that teams can apply in real time
Monitor and analyze safety and environmental performance indicators, supporting the EHS Manager in tracking progress
Identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities using data, observations, and process knowledge
Contribute to maintaining compliance with federal, state, local, and Unilever EHS requirements
Support audits, inspections, and corrective action implementation
Participate in hazard assessments, JSAs, environmental evaluations, and risk‑reduction initiatives
Help implement engineering and administrative controls to eliminate or minimize hazards
Assist in investigations for incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
Help document findings, follow up on corrective actions, and support communication of learnings
Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, occupational health, and external partners
Provide technical support during equipment installations, process changes, trials, or projects
Use structured problem‑solving and industry best practices to recommend improvements
Support deployment of new programs, technologies, or systems
Requirements:
Experience influencing and engaging employees in a manufacturing environment
Strong communication skills
Understanding of safety culture principles and risk‑reduction strategies
Working knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements
Ability to interpret data and convert findings into recommended actions
2-3+ years of experience in EHS, engineering, or process improvement
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science, OHS, or related field
Availability to support operations across shifts
Nice to have:
PSM Site experience
Degree or certification in safety or environmental management
Experience supporting culture‑change or improvement initiatives
