Develops and implements safety and health standards, criteria, and guidelines
Scheduling and conducting training sessions
Acts as subject matter expert (SME) for ASC Safety and Health programs
Performs industrial hygiene surveys and documents findings
Uses and maintains health and safety related instrumentation
Issue safety equipment and permits
Conducts inventory of health and safety related supplies
Provides SME risk review and permit approval for all confined space work
Monitors confined space activity
Provide guidance and SME support to the Station Safety Committee
Attend weekly work center safety meetings
Interfaces with all other functional first line management and supervision
Complete work center visits/inspections
Follow-up and assist supervisors, line-leaders with incident investigations and root cause analysis
Requirements:
BS in chemistry, environmental, engineering, health and safety, or related field
Minimum of three years of experience with safety and health rules, regulations, standards, and the components of an effective safety program, including plant operations and/or construction safety, fire protection, public health, and development of related training programs
Experience in conducting thorough root cause analysis
Proficient in conducting safety training and presentations to groups
Working knowledge of basic industrial hygiene principles and the personal utilization of air purifying respirators (APR)
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely
Ability to maintain good working relationships with employees
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold
Must participate in community programs
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location
