The Safety Coordinator will oversee Health and Safety to support exploration drilling and other activities at the Tectonic Metals exploration camp, located in a remote portion of southwest Alaska. Typical duties include assessing workplace safety, enforcing safety standards, educating employees on safety procedures, identifying potential risks and hazards, and conducting safety inspections during the field season, expected to extend from May to October 2026.
Job Responsibility:
Work with all employees and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company safety standards and systems
Ensure all operations are carried out safely, consistently, and efficiently, in accordance with Tectonic Metals and best practice standards, policies, and procedures
Participate in internal safety inspections and audits to identify conditions or behaviours for improvement or corrective action and develop recommendations for changes to practices, techniques, and standards to leadership
Engage team members in effective problem-solving including: risk assessment, job observations, near miss identification, reporting, and corrective action planning
Facilitate and/or oversee investigations, corrective action, and root cause analysis
Assist with accurate reporting of all incidents into approved system and development of flash, summary, senior leadership review reports as required
Maintain accurate documentation and data entry in databases
Support and/or facilitate Formal Risk Assessments by developing and monitoring action plans
Actively participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and other training sessions
Develop and instruct safety topics during New Hire Orientation, and Introduction to Work Environment
Complete handovers with incoming and outgoing peers to support continuity of operations and safety
Promote consistency of standards across supervision and teams
Observe Safety Interactions performed by supervisors and give them feedback on how to improve
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
6+ year' experience in mining or related industry with proven/demonstrated Leadership in Safety or Minimum 6+ years’ experience in Safety and Health role
Advanced knowledge with MSHA or OSHA health and safety regulations and standards
Demonstrated ability to evaluate health and safety related risks
Ability to train and coach others on issues relating to health and safety
Practical application of Microsoft Office Suite of software
Computer literacy (Adobe Acrobat, Web-based Data Systems)
Advanced understanding in Occupational Health
Advanced Incident Investigation experience and certification
Ability to develop and implement OHS programs and systems, Advanced understanding of safety systems
Advanced understanding of mining, construction, and associated processes
Interpersonal, presentation, and training skills based on adult learning techniques
Collaboration and influencing skills
Advanced first aid and emergency response knowledge
Proven ability to lead teams
Knowledge and application of leadership skills, incident investigation and risk assessment/management
