Under the direction and supervision of the Director, Safety Compliance, the Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring the regulatory compliance of the safety program. The Safety Specialist anticipates, recognizes, evaluates, and controls hazards enhancing the health and safety of all InnovAge employees through the careful management of all risks at InnovAge. This position serves as the subject matter expert in EHS and is responsible for implementing and executing environmental and safety programs that effectively lead the safety culture at InnovAge. This position is responsible for providing sound leadership and management to safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and/or local Environmental, Health and Safety legislation.
Job Responsibility:
Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Safety related policies and procedures
Conducts Safety compliance audits at InnovAge facilities
Observes work practices/tasks and reports hazardous conditions
Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining an enterprise-wide safe patient handling (SPH) program
Analyzes data to recognize trends in work-related injuries/illnesses and assessing risks
Supports and instructs facility-based Safety Coordinators and their Committees
Keeps abreast of pending regulatory developments and potential impact to operations
Ensures appropriate sampling and monitoring measures are conducted for all exposure type events
Monitor safety reporting for accidents and injuries
Provide assistance with post-accident and post-injury investigations
Monitors expenditures in order to meet budget goals
Immediately stops a process that jeopardizes safety
Ensures that all local, State, and Federal safety and education requirements are met
Develops individualized safety training
Conducts or organizes training sessions in areas such as
ergonomics, chemical handling, hazardous wastes, regulations, investigations, defensive driving
Provides observation and instruction to staff and supervisors
Performs need analysis studies
Ensures designated supervisors/safety coordinators/trainers are properly trained
Evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of education efforts
Communicates frequently with the supervisors of trainees
Selects and/or develops testing and evaluation procedures
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
State issued driver’s license, personal transportation, good driving record and auto insurance
Minimum four (4) years healthcare safety experience
Working knowledge of OSHA compliance, hazardous material handling, and healthcare safety
Previous experience and proven ability to effectively train/educate adult learners
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience managing projects
Superior customer service skills
Strong verbal and written (report) communications skills and presentation skills
Ability to maintain professionalism at all times under stressful situations
Ability to plan and manage work under time constraints
Strong judgment, problem-solving and crisis management skills
Strong organizational skills and collaborative style
Nice to have:
Bachelor’s degree Environmental Health and Safety or related field
Board certification as a Safety Professional
Four (4) years of healthcare safety and transportation safety experience
Working knowledge of DOT guidelines and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)
