About the opportunity Australia Post is seeking an experienced Senior Safety Specialist to partner with leaders across our Deliveries business and drive meaningful, sustainable improvements in safety, wellbeing and performance. In this senior advisory role, you’ll influence outcomes through strong stakeholder relationships, trust-building and practical coaching. You’ll empower operational leaders to take ownership of safety and translate strategy into action by leading complex safety initiatives, investigations and improvement programs within a large, unionised environment.
Job Responsibility:
Build trusted partnerships with operational leaders to support safety initiatives, projects and improvement plans
Provide expert, pragmatic safety advice that balances legislative obligations with operational needs
Coach leaders to strengthen safety capability, culture and risk awareness
Lead and support complex incident investigations, ensuring high-quality analysis and effective corrective actions
Drive safety projects from planning to implementation with measurable outcomes
Analyse data to identify systemic risks and translate insights into targeted interventions
Support managers with investigations and ensure compliance with policies and escalation requirements
Engage confidently with unions, HSRs and regulators to improve safety outcomes
Partner with Enterprise Safety, Customer Excellence and external providers to deliver consistent safety programs
Requirements:
5–7 years’ experience in a senior safety role within a large, complex organisation
Demonstrated experience working in a highly unionised environment
Strong investigation capability, including experience with complex incidents
Proven ability to influence through trust, credibility and strong working relationships
Experience delivering safety initiatives from concept to implementation
Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and its practical application, including Chain of Responsibility
Ability to communicate complex safety concepts simply and effectively
Proactive mindset with the ability to work with minimal supervision
Tertiary qualification in WHS (Diploma or above) and a current driver’s licence
Nice to have:
Lead Auditor qualification
ICAM or equivalent investigation competency
Certificate IV Training & Assessment
Experience supporting rehabilitation and return‑to‑work programs
