Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Safety and Health Specialist – Facility Oversight Support (3852) in Oak Ridge, TN. Job Responsibility

  • Perform facility oversight support activities at nuclear and non-nuclear facilities
  • Conduct on-site, performance-based evaluations and walkthroughs
  • Review work plans and procedures for compliance with DOE, federal, state, and local safety requirements
  • Develop narrative reports documenting evaluation results and compliance findings
  • Participate in or conduct event investigations and reviews
  • Evaluate corrective actions to determine adequacy and effectiveness

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in occupational health, safety, or an equivalent related technical field
  • OSHA training
  • Safety and health training in accordance with industry standards and DOE safety requirements
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in the field of safety and health
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting Oak Ridge site operations
  • Demonstrated experience conducting facility evaluations, event investigations, and compliance reviews
  • DOE Q clearance
  • US citizenship is required

  • Oversight of the company Explosive Safety programs in accordance with US Navy Explosive Safety manuals, instructions and operating procedures
  • Provide oversight of the weapons handling qualifications program
  • Conduct routine ammunition magazine and grounds inspections
  • Conducting routine grounding and bonding inspections to ensure compliance with established US Navy Facility requirements
  • Maintain Compliance with all ship and station safety regulations that concern ammunition and explosives within the ship in conformance with orders of the commanding officer of the DON shore activity concerned. Assist as a Safety Observer to the pier or wharf area during weapons on and off load
  • Monitors and ensures safe handling operations for ordnance technicians
  • Reviews explosive site approvals, forwards on to US Navy Explosive Safety Officer for official submittal
  • Assists the US Navy Explosive Safety Officer and company EHS department in conducting accident / incident and near-miss investigations
  • Assist the EHS department in conducting and documenting facility inspections in Florida locations and on Andros Island to detect existing or potential unsafe or hazards conditions, and recommend corrective or preventive measures when necessary
