Job Description

Keyano College is currently seeking an experienced Safety Advisor for a 12-month contract term. The ideal candidate is a designated safety professional with a broad skillset including developing, implementing, participating in, and managing OH&S programs and policies.

Job Responsibility

  • Advises, develops, maintains and assists with implementation of the health and safety program including safe work practices and procedures, hazard identifications, policies, and manuals throughout the college departments and different locations in RMWB
  • Provides advice, guidance, coaching, facilitation, and training to stakeholders on a wide range of safety matters that support strategic and operational objectives
  • Regularly reviews safety legislation, policies and procedures
  • monitors legislative and regulatory changes and initiates changes in workplace practices accordingly
  • Assists with preparation of documentation and conducts research for the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and participates as an Advisor & Subject Matter Expert (SME)
  • Assists with the coordination and facilitation of health and safety training needs
  • Assist leaders with and conduct daily toolbox meetings and field level hazard assessments
  • Support and participate in field tours, workplace observations, physical condition and planned inspections
  • Ensure effective safety practices and standards are adhered to
  • Lead the incident investigation process and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on incident information gathering and root cause a analysis
  • Contributes to the research, analysis, and forecasting that leads to the development of the overall safety program strategy
  • Support, monitor and steward the area-specific injury reduction plan
  • Update the College Emergency Response Plan on an ongoing basis
  • Lead the application & obtaining of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) for the College
  • review, conduct and implement safety programs to a minimum COR equivalent
  • Performs duties and participates in projects on an ad hoc basis that support the operation of the health and safety program

Requirements

  • Post secondary education (Bachelor’s degree) in a related Occupational Health and Safety discipline
  • Minimum five years of industrial experience in an OH&S or HSE Advisor role with primary focus on Health and Safety experience
  • Knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation is required
  • Experience in Auditing systems
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety systems
  • Formal Risk Assessment training
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, investigation and problem-solving skills
  • Strong report writing, communication and documentation skills are required
  • Excellent computer skills, including data analysis abilities
  • Past experience with reviewing and implementing safety programs to a minimum COR equivalent

Nice to have

Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is considered an asset
