Safeguarding Lead – Alternative Provision (Multi-Site Role) West Sussex Area – Must Drive. Full-Time | September Start | Competitive Salary (Depending on Experience). Pink Tile Education are working in partnership with a specialist provisions service across West Sussex, who are seeking an experienced and dedicated Safeguarding Lead to oversee safeguarding across multiple sites supporting children and young people with SEMH and additional needs. This is a key leadership role within the organisation, responsible for ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all pupils aged 5–16 who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional, mental health needs, behavioural challenges, medical needs, or other vulnerabilities. Due to the multi-site nature of the role, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential. The successful candidate will play a central role in safeguarding strategy, supporting staff teams, managing referrals, and ensuring all safeguarding concerns are identified, recorded, and acted upon appropriately in line with statutory guidance and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). You will be working closely with senior leadership teams, external agencies, social care, and families to ensure consistent safeguarding practice and high levels of support for vulnerable young people.
Job Responsibility
Lead on safeguarding across multiple Alternative Provision sites
Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for pupils and staff concerns
Ensure all safeguarding concerns are recorded, monitored, and escalated appropriately
Work closely with social care, early help, and external agencies
Support and train staff in safeguarding procedures and updates
Ensure compliance with KCSIE and safeguarding legislation
Contribute to risk assessments, behaviour plans, and multi-agency meetings
Provide guidance to staff working with pupils presenting SEMH and behavioural needs
Monitor attendance, welfare concerns, and pupil wellbeing across provisions
Requirements
Have experience in a DSL or Deputy DSL safeguarding role
Have strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and KCSIE
Have experience working with SEMH, SEND, or vulnerable children/young people
Be confident working with external agencies and multi-agency teams
Be calm, professional, and confident when dealing with complex safeguarding cases
Be highly organised with excellent communication skills
Be able to build strong relationships with staff, pupils, and families
Be resilient and confident working in emotionally challenging environments
Experience within education, Alternative Provision, PRU settings, youth services, social care, or residential care would be highly beneficial
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
