Conducts outreach activities for the South Asian Caregivers Program. Supports and facilitates activities to help South Asian caregivers (55+) connect, socialize, access resources, and build support networks. Engages with the community, organizes events and/or participates in community events. Builds relationships with seniors/caregivers in Gurdwaras, temples, and other various sites.
Job Responsibility:
Conducting outreach at Gurdwaras, temples, community organizations, assembly halls, recreation/cultural spaces and at local events
Identifying and recruiting caregivers (55+) to join the program
Networking and building relationships with caregivers and key stakeholders to strengthen partnerships
Providing information sessions to volunteers and caregivers to assist in providing support to seniors
Organizing and leading weekly group sessions for program participants
Tracking data on events and activities, collecting feedback, and producing reports
Creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for seniors
Supporting group discussions and activities
Providing resources to support program activities (e.g., information about power of attorney, elderly law clinics, Red Cross medical equipment loans, Better at Home)
Arranging guest speakers for weekly events and activities
Coordinating the volunteer schedule and supervising volunteers
Setting up and preparing the meeting space on a weekly basis and tidying up the space afterward
Requirements:
A certificate, diploma or degree in a related field or an acceptable combination of training and/or experience
Experience in planning and organizing activities and/or events
Experience working with databases to input and track data and create reports
Must be fluent in both English and Punjabi (spoken is essential and written is preferred)
Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED
Strong knowledge of community resources and community partners in the Abbotsford area
Fluency in both English and Punjabi (spoken essential and written preferred)
Comfortability speaking with seniors and community members
Ability to travel within the community to outreach locations
Ability to be friendly, approachable, patient, reliable, trustworthy, and mindful of diverse cultures
Skills with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to use databases to input data and generate reports
Good record keeping skills
Skills in facilitating and communicating and presenting information to a variety of audiences in a clear, concise, and effective way
Ability to provide feedback and coaching to volunteers
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
The requirement to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Nice to have:
Experience working with seniors or community groups is an asset but not required
