Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented S&U Tax Accountant to join a retail organization in Hartland, Wisconsin on a Contract basis. This position focuses on supporting multi-state sales and use tax compliance while contributing to broader accounting activities that help maintain accurate financial operations. The role is fully onsite during standard business hours and offers the opportunity to work closely with accounting and operational partners in a collaborative environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare and submit sales and use tax filings across multiple jurisdictions with a high level of accuracy and timeliness
  • Maintain exemption certificates and organize tax records to support compliance and documentation needs
  • Assist with audits, notices, and other tax-related reviews by gathering information and responding to requests
  • Research indirect tax rules and track regulatory updates that may affect filing obligations or business practices
  • Collaborate with accounting and operations teams to address tax questions, resolve discrepancies, and improve reporting accuracy
  • Contribute to general accounting tasks such as reconciliations, journal entry support, and related financial analysis
  • Participate in workplace safety initiatives through involvement with the company’s Safety Committee
  • Provide support for insurance administration, reporting, and associated documentation as needed

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in indirect tax, with a strong emphasis on sales and use tax compliance
  • Hands-on experience managing multi-state tax filings and related supporting documentation
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, reconciliations, and data analysis
  • Familiarity with Avalara is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, and bank or account reconciliations
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines, and maintain accuracy
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to partner with cross-functional teams in an onsite work environment
