Job Description:

In this role, you’ll operate a paving screed or roller, along with various other types of heavy equipment, in order to pave asphalt. You’ll work with a team on projects big and small as we work together to build our communities. You’ll play an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built. Job Responsibility:

  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently
  • Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications
  • Responsible for proper compaction and smoothing of asphalt
  • Make normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls
  • Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor
  • Keep machines cleaned and maintained
  • Travel to and from various locations
  • Assist labor crew including shoveling, raking and compacting of asphalt materials
  • Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production
  • Promptly communicate with paving crew on any flaws in material
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs
  • Regular and timely attendance

Requirements:

  • Background in heavy civil construction, specifically asphalt paving (3-6 years)
  • Effective leader skilled in directing other employees
  • Passionate about providing coaching, mentoring, and feedback
  • Ability to promote a safe working environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of personality types
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated construction, asphalt paving, or related experience required
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed
  • Willingness to learn and work a variety of job tasks
  • Ability to work and communicate well with supervisor, plant personnel, and other employees
  • Ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing
  • Must have current authorization to work in the United States
