Job Description

As a Robotics Field Service Engineer, you will serve as the front line of technical execution across Formic’s deployed robotic cells. You will diagnose and resolve issues, perform preventative and corrective maintenance, support production environments, and represent Formic directly at customer sites. This role requires strong troubleshooting ability, composure under pressure, and disciplined documentation. Your work will directly impact fleet uptime, customer satisfaction, and system reliability.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on robotic manufacturing cells
  • Respond to remote and on-site escalations, diagnose root causes, and restore systems to operational status
  • Support customer production environments and provide hands-on technical guidance to operators and technicians
  • Log all service activity, asset updates, and spare part needs in CMMS tools such as MaintainX
  • Coordinate scheduling and in-field support with customers, vendors, and internal teams
  • Monitor system performance remotely using Formic dashboards and monitoring tools
  • Document service work, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions with clarity and accuracy
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and escalate systemic issues for broader improvement
  • Build professional, trusted relationships with plant managers and site personnel
  • Represent Formic with professionalism, safety compliance, and a customer-first mindset
  • Participate in RCA sessions, site audits, and internal improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on field service experience supporting robotic or industrial automation equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and PLC or robotic control systems
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and pneumatic drawings
  • Experience using CMMS platforms to track and report maintenance activity
  • Comfortable with local travel up to 80% and overnight travel up to 50%
  • Clear written and verbal communicator capable of producing structured service reports
  • Strong adherence to safety standards including LOTO and industrial compliance practices

Nice to have

  • Experience with 6-axis robot brands such as Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa, ABB, or Universal Robots
  • Familiarity with palletizing, case packing, pick-and-place, or conveyor systems
  • Experience in food, beverage, packaging, CPG, or other high-speed manufacturing environments
  • Prior customer-facing field experience
  • Spanish language proficiency

  • Perform structured failure analysis and triage: Identify patterns and top drivers of downtime/returns, Distinguish between usage, environment, process, and design contributors, Escalate critical issues with clear severity, impact, and containment recommendations
  • Produce recurring reporting on field health (top failures, MTBF/MTTR inputs, parts consumption, repeat offenders, and site readiness gaps)
  • Partner with design, reliability, manufacturing, and suppliers to drive design corrective actions (DCA) and verification of fixes (including validation plans and regression checks)
  • Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and serviceability feedback loops by providing 'what failed / what was hard to service / what would prevent recurrence' insights
