Job Description:

We are looking for a Robotic Safety Engineer to define the safety strategies and compliance of Figure in the home and commercial environments. You will be responsible for working with the engineering teams in order to support safety-critical functions, establishing development methodologies, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards, with a specific focus on navigating new and evolving consumer safety standards and obtaining product safety certifications.

Job Responsibility:

  • Create and implement a holistic strategy for consumer safety in the home in consultation with products safety and liability counsel
  • Lead the assessment and acquisition of applicable product safety certifications for robotic systems, applying professional judgment to navigate new and evolving regulatory frameworks to ensure full compliance while fostering innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate safety requirements and develop synergy between safety activities and development activities
  • Apply industry-standard safety methodologies to contribute to the development and architectural design, supporting the deployment of humanoid robot prototypes and safety-critical systems in the home and commercial environments
  • Perform safety activities in coordination with design, development, and verification of robotic systems, including generating safety artifacts such as safety plans, risk analysis and reliability assessments
  • Strategically integrate safety considerations throughout the product development lifecycle, from design to deployment

Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience getting products through safety certification
  • Extensive experience in safety engineering on various robotic systems, with a focus on safety-critical functions in consumer applications
  • Knowledge of and experience in consumer products safety and liability, as these apply to hardware and robotics.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems related to robotics and passion for cutting edge technology
  • Ability to work independently, while also effectively collaborating across multiple organizations
  • Ability to think critically to develop innovative solutions to novel and unique safety challenges
  • Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions to enhance safety
  • Track record of obtaining NRTL safety certifications for commercialized products
  • In depth knowledge of industrial robotics and safety standards such as R15.06, R15.08, IEC 62061 and IEC 61508

Nice to have:

  • Advanced Degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience leading the certification process for safety-critical products
  • Familiarity with safety certifications and compliance in the field of robotics
