Job Description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for advancing existing designs, optimizing mechanical systems, conducting accessibility studies, cost estimation, structural optimization, and supporting design adaptation based on ergonomic and safety studies.

Job Responsibility

  • Feasibility Report: Mechanical design feasibility of fastener module for MFEE, including drivers, fasteners, and systems specification review, preparation of initial concepts for nose piece, drive, and control module, delivery of feasibility report
  • Design Sprints 1 & 2: Design concepts for fastener installation/removal: nose piece, driver, and module assembly compatible with MFEE and generic Multifunction End Effector, perform design load analysis and FEA report, conduct accessibility studies for fasteners and module assembly, support ergonomic and design risk assessments per Airbus standards, support defect mapping and reliability studies, generate 3DX Delmia or CATIA models and 2D drawings for approval and fabrication, generate capabilities matrix
  • Budget Estimation: Estimate NRCs (Non-Recurring Costs) for the machine, support budget estimation and construction planning, including timelines and resource allocation
  • Documentation: Present design changes and progress updates, create documentation with version control and ensure accessibility for collaboration

  • Design and develop software programs (PLC and/or PC based) specific to customer and project requirements based on standard ATS programming methods (ATS Global Code Standard)
  • In depth programming in environments mainly using PLC Ladder logic (Rockwell / Siemens platforms), and structured test (i.e. shell scripting, Visual Basic, C#, Python)
  • Ability to reverse-engineer and write PLC code from scratch
  • Select, test and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, I/O, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers
  • Debug and commission control systems at our facility, during the system integration stage and then at the customer's site during installation. Travel to both domestic and international customer locations for SAT (up to 20% travel per year)
  • Work with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and reduced cost
  • Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system
