Join our growing Transport division at Service Stream! Service Stream are now delivering routine maintenance and defect rectification works, and refurbishment and upgrade projects under a major long-term contract with the Victorian Government (Metropolitan Victorian Road Maintenance Contract (VRMC) - South Central Region). We have opportunities for Road Maintenance Workers to join our team in permanent roles based out of our Clayton and Frankston depots! Working under the direction of our Supervisors, in crews of 2-4 people, you will be critical in delivering services under this contract.

Job Responsibility

  • Performing rapid response to incidents and emergencies across the network
  • Carrying out scheduled routine servicing and hazard and defect rectification works for pavements, bridges and other structural assets, and all roadside assets (barriers, signage, vegetation)
  • Completing all works with a strong focus on safety, quality and efficiency
  • Recording works-related data in the field, in line with work instructions, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Participating in daily pre-start and shift-close meetings, contributing ideas for changes and improvements in work practices to enhance safety and efficiency

Requirements

  • Experience working as part of a crew maintaining pavements, bridges and other structural assets, and/or roadside assets (barriers, signage, vegetation)
  • TMA experience preferred but not essential
  • Road safety barrier (Guard Rail/WRSB) preferred
  • Flocon operator/experience preferred
  • Landscaping experience preferred but not essential
  • Arborist experience preferred but not essential (operate chainsaws and chippes)
  • Ability to be a committed team player who drives for service excellence and continuous improvement
  • A track record of working with a relentless focus on worker, road user and community safety
  • High levels of self-motivation, exceptional time-management skills and a proven ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Sound digital and data management skills, including familiarity with field applications for works management
  • Formal qualifications (Cert III or higher) in civil construction are a bonus, but not essential if you can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and capability

  • Maintains all rigid and flexible pavements and structures within the City boundaries according to City of Goodyear, State, and Federal guidelines, utilizing a variety of heavy equipment and pavement specific machinery
  • Maintains roadways by filling potholes, sealing cracks, setting up detailed and complex traffic control systems according to the MUTCD and Phoenix barricade manual, and operating a variety of heavy equipment such as the backhoe, compaction roller, gannon tractor and three ton roller
  • Operates jackhammers and pneumatic compacting equipment
  • Operates a 4-yard or 6-yard dump truck and self-contained patch truck
  • Operates air compressors, hydraulic tools and other similarly sized maintenance equipment
  • Operates a spray injection patcher in operation of pothole filling, skin patching, and shoulder repair
  • Utilizing an asphalt coring machine, takes core samples and properly logs them for historical data
  • Drives various size trucks when traveling to and from job sites
  • Maintains 30 miles of unpaved roadways and shoulders utilizing a Road Grader, nine wheel pneumatic roller, and Water truck
