Requirements

Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required
Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
BLS and ACLS required
*PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned ASC services pediatrics
Core (FT/PT): Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU (i.e. ICU, ED)
Licensed RN with no experience in PreOp/PACU and enrolled in Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months
New licensed RN enrolled in the Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months
PRN: Minimum two years licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU

Job Responsibility

Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and post-operative planning needs
Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input
Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team
Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and teaching and revises the plan of care as needed
Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record
Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice
Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
In some locations, this position may provide relief charge for staff and workflow of the department
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards

Job Responsibility

Assessment: Does admission and ongoing assessment of patient’s condition. Provides nursing care to meet the patient’s physical, psychological and spiritual needs. Notifies doctor of changes in assessment that require attention
Planning: Designs, directs, evaluates, and documents the plan of care, patient/family teaching and the transition of care plan to include a safe appropriate level of care discharge. Works with other clinical disciplines to meet specialized patient care and discharge needs. Formulates a plan of care and daily goals that takes into consideration the individualized needs of the patient
Implementation: Prepares patients physically, psychologically, and spiritually for treatments, surgeries and diagnostic studies to help reduce patient anxiety. Knows patients' conditions and reports significant changes to Charge Nurse/Team Leader, and/or physician. Implements patient safety initiative and protocols including medication safety practices, physician orders, consult notifications
Evaluation: Reassesses patients at appropriate intervals following interventions. Notifies physician as necessary to modify interventions. Adjusts nursing care to meet patient's emerging and changing needs
Report Skills: Gives and receives report using Bedside Shift Report including family participation. Provides an accurate and comprehensive report to the oncoming shift to help establish continuity of patient care. Receives report from
