Surgery circulating experience preferred, but not required
Has organizational and multi-tasking skills

Job Responsibility

The Surgery Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect provisions of professional nursing care of the patients in the surgical suite and peri-anesthesia areas
accountable for the patient's ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of all of the components of care delivered to patients within the peri-operative/recovery environments utilizing the nursing process
monitor, aid and direct the activities of the surgical staff during the procedures
maintain continuous communication with the surgeon, anesthetist and team
demonstrate knowledge of the necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment needed during the procedures
have thorough knowledge of the instrument processing, sterilization, biological monitoring and will actively participate in these processes
share on call duties

Active RN license in the state
BLS, ACLS, or PALS as required by the center
A minimum of 1 year experience working as a Circulator

Providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases
Ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery
Maintaining a professional approach while providing nursing care
Working directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op
Positioning the patient, prepping the patient, and circulating the case

ongoing monitoring of asepsis throughout surgical procedures and reports breaks immediately
Demonstrates expertise in performance of scrub/surgical routines--anticipates needs of surgeon
consistently recognizes sequence of procedures
understands rationale of instrument usage
passes instruments correctly
appropriate review and preparation for assigned procedures
Consistently demonstrates knowledge of instrument usage, assembly of instrument sets, case set-up procedures, break-down of instruments set-ups, and protocol for transport to SPD for processing
Understands and utilizes established guidelines for operation of autoclaves and steris units--performs daily A-Test/Biological tests as required
