Active RN license in the state
BLS, ACLS, or PALS as required by the center

Job Responsibility

Providing essential nursing care to patients during surgical cases
Ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care during surgery
Maintaining a professional approach while providing nursing care
Working directly with surgeons, medical/surgical staff and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op
Positioning the patient, prepping the patient, and circulating the case

Follows established guidelines related to aseptic technique--utilizes proper scrub, gown and gloving technique for self, surgeon, and assistant
ongoing monitoring of asepsis throughout surgical procedures and reports breaks immediately
Demonstrates expertise in performance of scrub/surgical routines--anticipates needs of surgeon
consistently recognizes sequence of procedures
understands rationale of instrument usage
passes instruments correctly
appropriate review and preparation for assigned procedures
Consistently demonstrates knowledge of instrument usage, assembly of instrument sets, case set-up procedures, break-down of instruments set-ups, and protocol for transport to SPD for processing
Understands and utilizes established guidelines for operation of autoclaves and steris units--performs daily A-Test/Biological tests as required

Job Responsibility

Operate as a go-between for the operating room staff and the rest of the surgery center
Perform initial assessment of the patient as they are wheeled into the operating room
Ensure the patient is comfortable
Assist the surgeon and scrub nurse as they clean up and prepare for surgery
During surgery, hand packages of supplies to the scrub nurse as necessary
If something is required from outside of the room, or if the surgeon needs a message passed on to another staff or family member, it falls to a circulating nurse
After surgery, count opened packages and used supplies to ensure no supplies were accidentally left inside the patient
