Job Description

Join us as a Risk Manager at Barclays where you will help shape the future of banking by providing risk oversight by identifying, assessing, and managing financial crime risks across operations. The team acts as the 1st Line of Defence to ensure risks are effectively controlled and appropriately escalated. The role leads on risk assessments, control reviews, regulatory updates, and supports business changes - particularly regarding how product or process changes impact the financial crime screening landscape. With a primary focus on adverse media screening and the risk‑based framework, the role requires someone capable of translating complex problems into clear, actionable insights.

Job Responsibility

  • Help shape the future of banking by providing risk oversight by identifying, assessing, and managing financial crime risks across operations
  • Act as the 1st Line of Defence to ensure risks are effectively controlled and appropriately escalated
  • Lead on risk assessments, control reviews, regulatory updates, and supports business changes - particularly regarding how product or process changes impact the financial crime screening landscape
  • Translate complex problems into clear, actionable insights
  • Support the Risk Function in delivering it’s objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities
  • Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes
  • Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness
  • Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services
  • Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment

Requirements

  • Proven experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within a financial or business banking environment
  • Ability to interpret and draw insights from data to inform risk assessments, business decisions, and strategic recommendations
  • Ability to review and map customer journeys and processes to identify pain points, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities
  • Solid understanding of control frameworks and their application to ensure compliance, governance, and operational effectiveness
  • Confirmed financial crime (FinCrime) screening experience
  • Considerable stakeholder management skills
