General Excavating is searching for a highly motivated Rig Welder in our Natural Gas division. The Welder will be responsible for performing welding tasks to ensure the integrity and safety of pipeline systems, working in compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of welding techniques, materials, and safety procedures, with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
Job Responsibility:
Perform welding tasks to ensure integrity and safety of pipeline systems
Ensure all welds meet project specifications, safety standards, and industry codes (such as ASME, API, and AWS)
Interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding procedure specifications (WPS) to determine project requirements
Set up and operate stick welding equipment and other welding tools
Conduct inspections of welds to verify quality, including visual inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and x-ray reviews
Set up and operate tapping and stopping equipment safely
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Collaborate with other crew members to ensure timely and safe completion of pipeline construction, repairs, and maintenance
Follow all safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
Monitor and adjust welding parameters to ensure strong, high-quality welds
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
Troubleshoot and repair welds as needed
Manage welding equipment, materials, and tools for the rig
Ensure rig is properly stocked with necessary consumables
Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements
Maintain documentation per customer requirements
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Certified Welder (e.g., AWS, ASME, or other relevant certifications)
Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide
Ability to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance
Ability to read a tape measure and convert inches into tenths
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
Physical ability to use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
Specific vision abilities required (close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus)
