The Rig Systems Engineer for integrated facilities is responsible for leading projects and ensuring asset integrity through collaboration with project engineers and the rig’s drilling contractor. Key projects include structural modifications, digital system installations, equipment upgrades, and major maintenance routines. This role reports directly to the Well Operations Manager and supports both Wells and Production Operations. Key responsibilities include planning and executing offshore projects, managing drilling contractor relationships, and leading agile contractor teams to meet project objectives. The role encompasses budget development, cost control, and value improvement practices, alongside establishing and maintaining project management standards. Operational support for Well Superintendents, innovative engineering solutions, and technology integration are critical components of this position. The Rig System Engineer will oversee maintenance processes, incident management, and integrity assurance of rig systems. Additionally, responsibilities include oversight of critical spares, change management, and competence assurance of contractor teams. The role also involves leading rig stacking strategies, assessing future operational readiness, and ensuring safe and compliant demobilization activities.
Job Responsibility:
Plan and execute offshore projects in coordination with the Sr. Rig Engineer, Well Superintendent, Project Engineers, Planners, and stakeholders across Wells and Production
Interpret and manage drilling contractor relationships and contractual obligations
Lead two agile contractor teams to deliver asset management and maintain project objectives
Oversee development and update of 5-year maintenance plan and project strategy on an annual basis, including scope prioritization, phasing, and financial forecasting
Validate invoices and value of work done by the rig contractor
Develop the annual capital budgets, track earned value, forecast-to-complete, and implement value improvement practices
Establish and maintain project management standards and reporting consistency across teams, including project performance and KPI’s
Facilitate day-to-day needs of Well Superintendents and coordinate with functional groups in Wells and Production
Provide innovative engineering and operational solutions to enhance rig efficiency and safety
Drive adoption of new technologies, capture lessons learned and integrate improvements into standards and design
Oversee maintenance & improvement processes, including Work Instruction Management, Bridging Documents, Risk Assessments, CMMS audits, Leadership Field Inspections, and performance reviews
Lead investigations for equipment failures and process upsets
implement corrective and preventive actions
Oversee contractor rig systems integrity strategy (pressure systems, structures, hoisting/rotating, electrical, control/automation) with inspection plans, KPIs, and risk registers
Act as custodian for contractor spares strategy—stocking levels, obsolescence management, and refurbishment plans
Serve as MoC owner for rig system modifications, ensuring technical authority approvals and documentation updates
Verify contractor maintenance and engineering team competence through matrices, assessments, and critical task evaluations
Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPC) for rig stacking plans across two integrated facilities
Responsibilities include comprehensive project planning, equipment removal, preservation and disposal, defining platform interface requirements, developing detailed schedules and cost forecasting
Assess operational readiness of rigs during extended cold stacking periods
Evaluate options for modular rig configurations or facility upgrades to support future rig requirements and guide long-term intervention and drilling strategies
Ensure all demobilization activities adhere to environmental, safety, and contractual obligations
Oversee execution supported by robust risk assessments, documentation updates, and compliance with regulatory standards
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in project management within the oil and gas industry, specifically in offshore drilling and rig operations
Experience in managing rig stacking plans and ensuring safe and compliant demobilization activities
Proven track record of managing large-scale projects and leading multi-disciplinary teams
Strong understanding of drilling contractor relationships and contractual obligations
Experience with budget development, cost control, and value improvement practices
Proficient in project management standards, reporting, and process governance
Ability to provide innovative engineering solutions to enhance rig efficiency and safety
Experience in technology integration and driving the adoption of new technologies
Strong skills in maintenance and improvement processes, including risk assessments and audits
Experience in leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions
Knowledge of contractor rig systems integrity strategies and critical spares management
Competence in managing rig system modifications and ensuring technical authority approvals
Ability to verify contractor maintenance and engineering team competence
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders across Wells and Production operations
