An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Consultant Rheumatologists to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive rheumatology care to a large population with a high prevalence of musculoskeletal disease. The department is progressing a modern hub-and-spoke service model, with strong support for service development — particularly the implementation of a NICE-compliant Early Arthritis Service. Consultants will benefit from a collaborative MDT environment, including specialist nurses, pharmacists, and extended-scope physiotherapists, as well as opportunities to develop subspecialty interests.
Job Responsibility:
Provide a comprehensive outpatient Rheumatology service, including specialist clinics and non-invasive investigations
Deliver inpatient and day-case Rheumatology care with rotational contribution across sites
Manage internal Rheumatology referrals from AMU and other hospital departments
Lead and develop an Early Arthritis Service aligned with NICE guidance
Support management of Rheumatology inpatients during working hours (no acute medical on-call commitment)
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and supervision of trainees
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Engage in research and service development activities within Rheumatology
Work collaboratively with primary care and community services to promote early intervention and care closer to home
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
MRCP or equivalent
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Previous experience in General Medicine
Evidence of training in clinical management
Understanding of clinical audit and commitment to ongoing audit participation
Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Interest in research and service development
Nice to have:
MRCP Part 1
Experience in DEXA scanning and Rheumatology-related procedures
