Job Description:

Report directly to the People and Culture Manager and take ownership of the implementation and administration of Return to Work (RTW) activities. This role is the designated officer responsible for coordinating workplace rehabilitation and recovery-at-work planning for injured employees. You will bridge the gap between legislative compliance and operational support, providing education and guidance to staff and management to ensure they understand their duty of care. This position requires a high degree of independence in decision-making and the ability to make informed professional choices to achieve positive, sustainable health outcomes.

Job Responsibility:

  • Facilitate recovery-at-work planning and manage rehabilitation programs in accordance with NSW WHS legislation
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and review of Council’s Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS)
  • Build networks and establish links with insurance providers, medical practitioners, and internal divisions to coordinate injury management
  • Educate and support management in performing their responsibilities regarding proactive WHS and duty of care
  • Coordinate statistical reporting requirements, manage a central register of reported incidents/injuries, and prepare professional correspondence
  • Proactively facilitate and coordinate health and wellbeing programs across the organization

Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of NSW Work Health and Safety legislation and practical experience in "Recover at Work" methodologies
  • High-level interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate with key stakeholders and handle sensitive injury matters
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legislation and respond effectively to shifting project priorities or organizational change
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office) and experience maintaining accurate RTW records in electronic document management systems
  • Ability to work independently while fostering a cooperative culture within the broader People and Culture team
  • Relevant degree or diploma in WHS, Human Resources, or Recover at Work
  • Introduction to Return to Work Coordination (SIRA/WorkCover approved course) or equivalent
  • Current Class C NSW Driver’s Licence
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and a Police Check
  • Capacity to work 35 hours per week with occasional flexibility required to meet project goals
