Job Description

Looking for a hard-working, self-motivated, and friendly individual with an experienced background in retail sales with an interest in learning and doing retail merchandise buying and data entry receiving to join our retail team. We are looking for someone with a positive and upbeat attitude, and someone who enjoys selling and providing world-class customer service in a fun, fast-paced environment; who also has an interest in retail merchandise buying and data entry receiving. Our ideal Retail Sales & Receiving Aid would learn and be on the sales floor when needed, as well as helping to assist in retail buying and data entry receiving. We are looking for a candidate who has a flexible schedule and can also work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift. Maui Ocean Treasures Gift Shop is the official gift shop of Maui Ocean Center. We are the most unique gift shop on Maui and we offer items that include fine and general jewelry, Pandora jewelry, apparel, books, marine-themed gifts, Hawaiʻi made culinary items, bath & body products, keiki toys, and so much more! We strive to provide exceptional customer service and to assist our guests with finding the perfect gift to commemorate their visit to Maui.

Job Responsibility

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50lbs or more and be able to stand for long periods of time in order to assist customers on the sales floor, as well as helping with restocking the sales floor and helping with various projects
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time at a computer
  • Must also be organized
  • Must be computer literate and must be comfortable working on a computer
  • Have a sense of ownership and pride in the aquarium and Maui Ocean Treasures
  • Maintain upbeat, professional attitude
  • Conduct positive interactions with customers and fellow employees
  • Actively contribute to meeting daily sales goals
  • Help to stock the sales floor and change floor displays when needed
  • Be able to effectively and comfortably communicate with others via phone, e-mail, etc.

Requirements

  • Some prior retail sales experience required
  • An interest in learning and doing retail merchandise buying, as well as data entry receiving, some experience a plus, but not required
  • Great people skills, outgoing and pleasant. The ability to provide excellent customer service daily
  • Reliability & punctuality
  • Computer literate
  • Can use a calculator to add/subtract/percentages etc…
  • Self-Motivated & organized with attention to detail
  • Able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 – 9 hour shifts with breaks)
  • Can bend, stoop, and lift at least 50 lbs
  • Can sit at a computer for long periods of time
  • Clear communication: this includes verbally and with reading/writing in the English language
  • Comfortable and experienced with working on a computer-based Point-Of-Sale (POS) system
  • Establish and maintain productive, professional relationships with other employees and effectively work as a team, as well as independently to perform all job requirements
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift
