Job Description:

Our Retail Sales Associates will assist our guests in all aspects of retail sales in our Mercantile. This includes working in the gift shop, Cafe, and Saloon. While working in any area of the Mercantile, this position is responsible for welcoming guests, offering assistance, answering questions, and handling cash/credit transactions. This position is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all areas of the gift shop (sales areas, office areas, storage areas, and bathrooms). The role may also prepare sandwiches and other food items for sale in the coffee shop/bar. This position is located at our Skagway location.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist guests in all aspects of retail sales in the Mercantile
  • Work in the gift shop, Cafe, and Saloon
  • Welcome guests, offer assistance, answer questions, and handle cash/credit transactions
  • Maintain cleanliness of all areas of the gift shop (sales areas, office areas, storage areas, and bathrooms)
  • Prepare sandwiches and other food items for sale in the coffee shop/bar
  • Adhere to the company’s standard operating procedures
  • Communicate accurate information to appropriate staff
  • Follow all company policies and procedures
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the company’s goals and objectives

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Must be willing to work with dogs daily
  • Must not be allergic to dogs
  • Strong communication, customer service, and attention to detail skills
  • Able to stay organized and calm under pressure in a fast-paced setting
  • Basic computer skills required
  • POS/cash handling experience a plus
  • Clean driving record may be required
  • Ability to obtain an Alaska Serve Safe Card and complete the TAPS course upon hire
  • Certified or able to get certified in First Aid/CPR
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
