As part of our Retail Senior Leadership Team the Retail Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective, compliant, and efficient operation of the ExtraCare Retail estate. The role provides central operational leadership, ensuring statutory compliance, robust governance, and the consistent application of organisational policies and procedures across all retail locations. You will lead the development and optimisation of operational processes, overseeing Health & Safety, risk management, maintenance, and Gift Aid administration to safeguard the organisation and support a high-performing retail environment. A key component of the role is the strategic management of New Goods-from supplier relationships and stock planning to financial performance-ensuring product ranges align with customer demand and organisational targets. Operating as a critical link between central functions and shop teams, the Retail Operations Manager ensures timely communication, supports issue resolution, and provides operational oversight to enable retail managers to deliver excellence. You will also work collaboratively with the Retail and wider ExtraCare Charitable Trust teams to identify opportunities and oversee any new business opportunities in line with the retail strategy and in line with agreed budgets, measurables and timeframes. Job Responsibility:
Lead bought-in goods and online sales strategy to drive income growth
Responsible for sourcing and developing product ranges, managing suppliers, and expanding retail offerings
Oversee stock planning, allocations, pricing, promotions, and markdowns to maximise sales and margin
Support retail teams with stock control processes and best practice, while improving online sales through clear policies, standards, and guidance
Develop and maintain procedures to ensure strong governance, compliance, and operational efficiency across the retail estate
Oversee health and safety, risk assessments, and statutory compliance, working with contractors to maintain safe environments and cost-effective services
Manage maintenance programmes, records, and systems, ensuring data accuracy and GDPR compliance
Continuously review processes to drive improvement, control costs, and deliver best value through effective supplier and contractor management
Lead and develop the Retail Operations team, including administration and Gift Aid functions
Work closely with stakeholders to deliver operational projects and initiatives with clear communication that supports strong in-store execution
Support the Retail Director in delivering an effective communication strategy and represent Retail Operations in planning meetings
Contribute to the Retail Strategy through forward planning, innovation, and data-led decision making
Maintain strong relationships with store and field teams, ensuring a clear focus on retail needs and performance
Requirements:
Strong retail experience with a track record in managing bought-in goods and supplier relationships, and a good understanding of store operations and the wider sector
Excellent communicator, able to translate complex information into clear, practical guidance and deliver messages across multiple channels
Confident working with stakeholders at all levels and managing multiple projects
Commercially focused, customer-driven, and results-oriented, with a strong emphasis on profitability and continuous improvement
A positive, solutions-focused leader who can influence change, adapt their style, and coach others to achieve strong performance
at giving and receiving feedback and strives to shift perceptions and mind-sets and provide more options for those they work with
Highly competent in converting technical / business language into simple ‘retail speak’ to ensure that all communications are delivered successfully
