Job Description

We are looking for a Retail Loan Officer to join a banking team in Charleston, South Carolina in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This role focuses on supporting consumer lending activity, including personal, auto, and recreational vehicle loans, while delivering attentive service to customers throughout the lending process. The position is well suited for someone with prior lending or credit union experience, though candidates beginning their banking career with strong customer service and analytical skills are also encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibility

  • Guide customers through consumer loan options and explain available products for personal, vehicle, and other non-mortgage borrowing needs
  • Review applications and supporting documents to help determine loan eligibility, completeness, and readiness for decisioning
  • Prepare and maintain accurate loan files, agreements, and related records in accordance with banking policies and regulatory standards
  • Coordinate with internal partners to move loans efficiently from application through closing and servicing activities
  • Monitor loan documentation and follow up with applicants to obtain missing information, clarify details, and keep the process on schedule
  • Support day-to-day retail lending operations while delivering responsive, attentive service to customers and branch teams
  • Assist with loan review and administrative tasks that help maintain quality, compliance, and portfolio accuracy
  • Contribute to a growing lending team by adapting to shifting coverage needs and supporting business continuity during staffing changes

Requirements

  • Experience in consumer lending, retail banking, loan administration, or a closely related financial services role is preferred
  • Working knowledge of consumer loan products, loan documentation, underwriting fundamentals, and servicing practices
  • Ability to evaluate financial information carefully and maintain a high level of accuracy in records and agreements
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to explain lending information clearly and professionally
  • Comfortable managing multiple applications and deadlines in a fast-paced banking environment
  • Previous credit union experience is a plus
  • Entry-level candidates with relevant education, strong professionalism, and an interest in building a banking career are encouraged to apply
