The Credit Risk Portfolio Manager is a management-level position responsible for driving significant results through the tactical management of a team or department. This role entails comprehensive oversight of Citi's retail credit portfolio, proactively identifying and managing credit migration in close coordination with the Risk Management team. This position also contributes to broader organizational standards and strategic policy formulation within the area of retail credit risk. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are essential to guide, influence, and convince colleagues and external partners. The Portfolio Manager holds full management responsibility for their team's oversight and strategic direction, and may be involved in budget planning and approval processes within the retail risk domain.
Job Responsibility:
Strategic Leadership & Policy Development: Effectively leads and oversees multiple policy change implementation projects specific to retail credit products, providing end-to-end support within the Risk Management Organization
Establishes and refines operating policies and procedures related to credit approval and verification, credit card fraud prevention, delinquency and loss management, and overall consumer lending strategies
Team and Resource Management: Conducts managerial responsibilities including coaching, mentoring, and escalation as needed within the retail credit risk team
Ensures continuous process improvement and efficiency initiatives are identified and implemented to support business unit goals in consumer lending
Credit Risk Oversight & Analysis: Drives the assessment of Citi's credit risk management practices and leads the identification and mitigation of credit risk across unsecured retail portfolios (e.g., credit cards)
Analyzes complex credit risks using advanced reports, scorecards, risk systems, and expert judgment, with a particular focus on behavioral scoring models, application fraud detection, and collections strategies relevant to retail products
Oversees post-implementation validation for Credit Implementations and develops robust test plans to ensure business policy changes are effectively validated within the retail lending context
Portfolio Performance & Reporting: Conducts periodic and ad-hoc analyses on retail credit portfolio performance for Risk Governance Assessments
Business Growth & Risk Strategy: Identifies business opportunities, develops sophisticated credit tests and risk strategies, balancing risk and return for retail products
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure flawless execution of policy tests and strategies across the consumer lending lifecycle
Ethical Conduct & Compliance: Appropriately assesses and manages risk in all business decisions, demonstrating strong consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets
Ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adheres to Policy, applies sound ethical judgment, and escalates, manages, and reports control issues with transparency
Actively supervises the activities of others and promotes accountability for maintaining these standards in retail credit operations
Requirements:
8-12 years of progressive experience in retail credit risk management, consumer lending, or a related financial discipline, preferably within a large financial institution focusing on credit cards and personal loans
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field
Advanced proficiency with analytical and data manipulation tools (e.g., SAS, SQL, R, SPSS) for large consumer datasets and behavioral analysis
Demonstrated experience with econometric and statistical modeling or application risk scoring specifically for retail credit products (e.g., credit card risk models, behavioral scoring, fraud detection models in consumer lending)
Proven ability to work with large datasets, understanding probabilities/distributions, and building decision trees and regression models relevant to consumer credit risk
Thorough knowledge of the retail credit lifecycle, including origination, underwriting, account management, collections, and its interdependencies
Excellent time management, organizational, analytical, and strong quantitative skills
Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including senior management and regulatory bodies
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
