Job Description:

MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries is looking for an energetic, self-motivated, and professional Retail Cashier to join our Cape Girardeau Store team! Job Responsibility:

  • Make customers a priority by greeting and acknowledging them as they enter the store
  • Help on the sales floor
  • Answer the phone within three rings with a professional greeting
  • Operate the store cash register: cash handling credit card transactions, appropriate discount returns, and cash register balancing
  • Stock straighten, rotate, and maintain the cleanliness of the entire store area efficiently and to standard
  • Request assistance from managers for returns, exchanges, and customer complaints
  • Uphold store cleanliness standards by sweeping, dusting, mopping, and shining surfaces
  • Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with team members and leadership
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to increase communication
  • Utilize safe work practices through awareness and observation
  • Contribute to ensuring the workplace is hazard-free by removing obstructions and keeping aisles and designated walkways debris-free
  • Maintain a professional appearance always, adhering to MERS/Goodwill's dress code
  • Safeguard agency assets, including cash, donated items, and purchased items, from harm, damage, or theft
  • Report any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of agency assets
  • Must adhere to all MERS/Goodwill policies, Goodwill Retail procedures, and safety and security regulations
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • No degree is required
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and management
  • Must be organized
  • Capable of interacting with a diverse work population
  • Necessary math skills include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

  • Perform credit card transactions, manufacturer coupon redemption, personal check acceptance, vendor check-in transactions in accordance with company standards and policies and practices
  • Verify the accuracy of the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift, and immediately notify your manager on duty of any inaccuracies
  • Be knowledgeable and actively participate in all sales promotions and other campaigns
  • Practice suggestive selling and build customer relations
  • Be aware of sales goals and performance against those goals
  • Review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and nametag at all times
