Job Description

This is a key leadership role within our data function, responsible for driving commercial impact through high-quality analytics, strong governance, and the development of a high-performing embedded analytics team. You will act as a bridge between data and decision-making, ensuring insight is consistent, scalable, and directly supports business priorities.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead a team of high-performing embedded analysts to drive commercial value and operational excellence
  • Act as the bridge between complex data and executive decision-making, translating insight into action
  • Build and implement a scalable “commercial playbook” to standardise reporting and reduce duplication
  • Define best practice across retail and commercial analytics (KPIs, templates, visualisation) to ensure one version of the truth
  • Manage and develop a cross-functional analytics team, aligning them to central strategy while delivering tailored insight to business areas
  • Champion automation and self-service tools to reduce manual reporting and increase value-add analytical work
  • Support the evolution of advanced analytics capability, including predictive modelling
  • Take a product-led approach to BI and data, influencing the development of data warehouse and reporting architecture
  • Partner closely with Data Engineering and IT to prioritise retail and commercial requirements in the data roadmap
  • Ensure all reporting and analytical outputs are robust, governed and compliant with data standards
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across Commercial Finance, Retail Leadership and the wider analytics community
  • Drive measurable impact through insight (ROI), efficiency gains, stakeholder satisfaction and team development

Requirements

  • Strong analytical mindset with a genuine interest in understanding the “why” behind the numbers
  • Advanced Power BI expertise (including DAX and Power Query), with the ability to create clear, compelling dashboards
  • Strong SQL skills, with experience handling complex data extraction and manipulation
  • Experience with Python or R for advanced analytics (desirable)
  • Solid understanding of retail and commercial drivers (e.g. LFL performance, margin, stock efficiency, P&L)
  • Good knowledge of modern data architecture and analytics tooling
  • Experience working in or leading an embedded analytics model, partnering cross-functionally with stakeholders
  • Strong prioritisation skills, balancing local business needs with central strategic goals
  • Strategic thinker who understands the wider business impact of data and reporting decisions
  • Confident communicator, able to translate technical insight into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Comfortable influencing and challenging stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven experience developing and mentoring analysts, raising both technical and commercial capability
  • Experience working with third-party data vendors and SaaS tools (beneficial)
