Job Description

The Developmental Disabilities Association is a community living agency that provides over 50 community-based programs to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. We create extended networks of support, invest in individual needs, and strive for an inclusive and safe community. Over 1,600 individuals and families in the Vancouver and Richmond area are supported every year. In Vancouver or Richmond, we are currently seeking Respite Caregivers to work with individuals with developmental disabilities on a part-time basis, mostly after school or on weekends, for regular 3 to 6 hours shifts.

Requirements

  • Valid First Aid & CPR
  • Clear Criminal Record
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Training and experience in a field related to developmental disabilities

  • Meal Preparation - Assist with preparation and serving of breakfast, lunch, dinner and/or snacks
  • Dressing- Provides hands-on and/or stand-by assistance with changes of client's clothing as needed
  • Toileting- Assist client on/off toilet or commode
  • changing diapers/briefs

  • Engages client in appropriate conversations (caregiver is to avoid personal disclosures about self, and discussions about client's family)
  • If parents request, teach, train and encourage client to perform tasks and learn skills as directed
