Requirements

Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care
Must be licensed by the state of Michigan
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
Must complete Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of hire
ACLS within one year of hire
Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy
Advanced knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology and hemodynamics
Must be proficient in recognizing various cardiac arrhythmias

Job Responsibility

Provides bedside respiratory care to patients as assigned by supervisors and given on the physician's written order for both in-house and out-patient care
Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees, therapists, and other health care providers
Maintains minimum level of competency as described in the Orientation, Training and Competency manual
Communicates with physicians in matters relevant to patient status
Works in collaboration with other health professionals to ensure effective management of patient care
Maintains and troubleshoots respiratory equipment to ensure the accuracy of results and safety according to regulatory requirements
Ensures availability of supplies and equipment for pulmonary function testing and respiratory therapy
Collects QI data as requested
Educates patient and family members/other caregivers as to the planned therapy, goals, and disease management
Ensures proper operation of equipment

Job Responsibility

Oversee the daily activities and workflow of the Respiratory Therapy department during the assigned shift
Serve as a resource and mentor for Respiratory Therapists, students, and other team members
Precept and orient new employees and respiratory therapy students
Perform daily staffing assignments in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager
Receive and coordinate coverage for sick calls and staffing shortages
Adjust staffing levels based on patient census, including calling staff off during low-census periods when appropriate
Assess, treat, and care for patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders
Administer prescribed respiratory therapy treatments and medications
Monitor and manage patients requiring respiratory support, including mechanical ventilation
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans

Requirements

Graduate from a two (2) year AMA approved School for Respiratory Care
passing score on the NBRC entry level examination
Current Oregon State Respiratory Care license
Current AHA BLS certification
Current AHA ACLS, PALS, NRP within three (3) months of hire

Job Responsibility

Administer competent respiratory care across all specialty areas (ER, Neonatal, Pedi, Geriatric, Critical Care)
Competently deliver all Respiratory Care procedures per policy, including monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, and patient assessment
Understand ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring, and interpret blood work results
Provide patient teaching and training
Maintain accurate/complete records of all procedures
Verify physician orders

Attend department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings

Job Responsibility
