A certified respiratory therapist (CRT) who is eligible to be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) may be required to deliver respiratory care services in all areas of the hospital. The CRT who is not eligible to be registered by the NBRC may be required to work in all areas of the hospital except the critical care areas. The therapist must be able to adapt to the particular area of duty assigned and must be able to perform special duties required by the assignment. The CRT may be required to supervise and be responsible for the work of other respiratory care practitioners. The therapist may be assigned orientation and inservice education responsibilities as well as be asked to function in the role of mentor for students of respiratory therapy participating in clinical rotations at Children’s of Alabama. The CRT works under the technical supervision and clinical guidance of the Respiratory Care Clinical Coordinators. Direct administrative supervision is provided by the area Respiratory Care Manager and the Respiratory Care Department Head. The CRT carries out assigned duties and responsibilities according to policies, procedures, and guidelines approved by the Medical Director of the department. Standards of performance for the area to which the individual is assigned must be maintained.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver respiratory care services in all areas of the hospital (e.g. intensive care units, medical and surgical floors, emergency departments, post-anesthesia care units, infant nurseries, and the chronic care units)
Adapt to the particular area of duty assigned
Perform special duties required by the assignment
Supervise and be responsible for the work of other respiratory care practitioners
Be assigned orientation and inservice education responsibilities
Function in the role of mentor for students of respiratory therapy participating in clinical rotations
Carry out assigned duties and responsibilities according to policies, procedures, and guidelines approved by the Medical Director of the department
Maintain standards of performance for the area to which the individual is assigned
Requirements:
Graduate of an American Medical Association (AMA) approved 10 month to 1 year program of respiratory therapy (for non-registry eligible)
Graduate of an AMA approved 2 or 4 year program of respiratory therapy (for registry eligible)
Licensed by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy (ASBRT)
Must sit for and pass the registry examination within a specified amount of time (if registry eligible)
Minimum of 1 year experience in the field of respiratory therapy
Licensed by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Care
Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care or eligible for certification and must sit for and pass the certification examination within a specified amount of time
