Job Description:

The Great Western Hospital respiratory nurses are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic nurse with respiratory experience to work within a well established team as a part time Band 6 respiratory nurse. Together we provide care throughout the trust, review in-patients, triage out-patients, run asthma clinics and support procedures in pleural clinics and provide care for day-ward attenders. We are looking forward to expand our roles to include ILD and biological therapies in COPD in the future.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide a specialist respiratory nursing service to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, both within the inpatient and outpatient setting
  • Act as a resource to other healthcare professionals requiring specialist advice
  • Provide support and assistance to the respiratory team and other teams as required
  • Work in conjunction with the Band 7 Respiratory Nurse, promoting and maintaining excellent, safe practice and continuing to develop the role of the nurse specialist
  • Strive to provide high quality care as well as aiming to achieve Trust objectives with respect to decreasing length of stay
  • Participate in the education of staff alongside clinical practice educators and to carry out audits

Requirements:

  • NMC Registration
  • Relevant respiratory course or respiratory experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Relevant post qualification respiratory experience
  • Working as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to function as an effective team member

Nice to have:

  • Management / Leadership Qualification
  • Patient assessment and clinical examination or equivalent course
  • Immediate Life Support
  • Non-medical prescribing course
  • Previous experience in a respiratory specialist role
  • Participation in research and /or audit
