An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine to join a well-established and expanding Respiratory service in Northern Ireland. This Consultant post offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality specialist Respiratory Medicine care within both inpatient and outpatient settings while contributing to multidisciplinary service development, respiratory ambulatory care, lung cancer pathways, and clinical leadership. The successful candidate will join a collaborative respiratory team focused on delivering modern, evidence-based respiratory care across acute and community services.
Job Responsibility
Provide consultant-led Respiratory Medicine assessment and treatment
Deliver specialist inpatient respiratory care, including non-invasive ventilation (NIV)
Manage acute and chronic respiratory disease presentations
Participate in Respiratory Ambulatory Hub services
Support rapid respiratory assessment and early discharge pathways
Contribute to outpatient respiratory clinics and multidisciplinary services
Participate in lung cancer multidisciplinary meetings
Contribute to respiratory radiology MDT discussions
Support development of community respiratory pathways
Perform speciality respiratory procedures, including bronchoscopy services
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning and governance activities
Supervise junior doctors and trainees
Participate in clinical audit, CPD, and quality improvement initiatives
Support undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching
Contribute to service innovation and respiratory pathway development
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Respiratory Medicine
CCT or equivalent qualification in Respiratory Medicine
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Excellent clinical skills in Respiratory Medicine
Experience managing acute and chronic respiratory conditions
Ability to lead high standards of respiratory care
Strong multidisciplinary team working ability
Experience in clinical governance and audit
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Commitment to teaching and training
Nice to have
Higher degree qualification such as MD, PhD, or equivalent
Research, publication, or presentation experience
Experience introducing or developing respiratory services
