An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and forward-thinking Consultant Respiratory Physicians to join an expanding Respiratory Medicine team in the South East region of England. This new phase of service development comes as part of a major reconfiguration of respiratory care across the region, with a focus on reducing inpatient stays, expanding outpatient capacity, improving discharge pathways, and empowering patient self-management. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while helping to shape the future of respiratory services in one of the UK’s most progressive healthcare environments.
Job Responsibility:
Provide expert inpatient management on dedicated respiratory wards, including daily handovers and multidisciplinary ward rounds
Develop and lead sub-speciality interests such as biologics for asthma, interstitial lung disease, EBUS, and interventional pleural procedures, in line with departmental priorities
Deliver respiratory input to community MDTs and support upstream respiratory care through enhanced advice and guidance services
Participate in pleural and EBUS clinics, and contribute to the daily respiratory hot clinic for acute admissions
Take part in the general medical on-call rota, with the potential to contribute to a respiratory speciality on-call service
Contribute to teaching, clinical audit, governance, and service development
Supervise junior medical staff and actively participate in continuing medical education
Support the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director in developing policy, strategy, and service innovation
Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, and risk management initiatives
Lead by example in promoting evidence-based practice, equality, inclusion, and patient safety
Participate in clinical audit, incident review, and the development of service-wide quality plans
Requirements:
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
CCT (or equivalent) in Respiratory Medicine, or within 6 months of completion at the time of interview
MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate qualification
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT
Proven expertise in the full range of respiratory medicine conditions
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and take full clinical responsibility for patient care
