Job Description:

Specialist Support Workers Needed in Portsmouth! Make a Real Difference! Join our dedicated, trauma-informed teams and become a vital part of a service that provides holistic, 24/7 care and support to vulnerable children and young people.

Job Responsibility:

  • Keeping young people safe and engaging them in independent living skills
  • Facilitating access to community activities and appointments
  • Collaborating with other social care professionals
  • Supporting young people facing challenges such as severe mental health issues, self-harm, challenging behaviour's, learning disabilities, offending behavioures, and those on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLs) Orders

Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting children and young people in a residential setting
  • Confidence in using de-escalation techniques to manage heightened behaviors calmly
  • Ability to make prompt decisions and take action in challenging situations
  • Understanding of detailed and accurate daily record keeping and incident reporting
  • Flexibility to work in various settings across the Portsmouth area
  • Driver's license (with business insurance) is highly desired
  • Reliable, resilient, and observant nature
  • Commitment to provide continuous support
  • Ability to provide accurate reporting information while on shift
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures

  • Creative approach to engaging and establishing trust with children and young people
  • Calmness during crisis situations (aggression, self-harm, destructive behaviors)
  • Confidence in your experience to support daily decision-making
  • Understanding of how trauma, previous experiences, and diagnoses impact behavior

  • Resilience to continue supporting through stressful situations and to keep trying new ways to engage
  • Observant nature, with the ability to share insights through reports and meetings
