Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Residential Real Estate Accountant to join our team in Branchburg, New Jersey, on a long-term contract basis. This role involves managing accounting operations for a portfolio of residential properties, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and delivering exceptional service to tenants and vendors. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, proficiency in accounting systems, and the ability to thrive in both collaborative and independent work environments.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes for assigned residential properties
  • Review tenant rent statements, ledgers, and vendor accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Process and track weekly payments for vendors while maintaining accurate documentation
  • Ensure timely payment of invoices and proper coding and entry into accounting systems
  • Monitor property utility meters and address related accounting tasks
  • Prepare weekly vendor payment reports and manage aging schedules
  • Maintain certificates of insurance for suppliers, subcontractors, and tenants to ensure compliance
  • Enter and manage residential leases in Yardi, verifying rent calculations and updating tenant information
  • Handle tenant move-ins and move-outs, ensuring accurate ledger updates and compliance with lease agreements
  • Coordinate legal filings with external counsel as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience in the residential real estate industry
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis
  • Familiarity with Yardi software, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience (4 years preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes
  • Experience in journal entries and bank reconciliations
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
