Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Duty Shift Sergeant, the University Reserve Police Officer will patrol University buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas and enforce the Commonwealth of Massachusetts laws and University regulations therein. Project an image of willing and helpful community service in the interest of campus security, crime prevention, and the overall wellbeing of the general community.

Job Responsibility:

  • Patrol University buildings, grounds and adjacent areas at regular intervals
  • Protect the campus from trespassers, thefts, damage or injury to persons and property
  • Inspect interior and exterior of all University buildings
  • Report all irregularities to the appropriate authorities
  • Respond immediately to all intrusion/fire alarms
  • Exercise police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators
  • Prepare detailed, clearly written investigative reports
  • Enforce University vehicle parking and traffic regulations
  • Investigate vehicular accidents
  • Control vehicular and pedestrian traffic
  • May perform overtime campus police detail duties
  • May provide emergency and/or courtesy transportation
  • When assigned to dispatch duty, acknowledge all incoming reports and dispatch patrol cars
  • Monitor alarms and CCTV

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate's degree or higher is preferred)
  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • 21 years of age
  • MA driver's license
  • MA class A license to carry firearms
  • Graduate of MA Full-Time Police Recruit Academy or equivalent
  • POST certified Police Officer
  • Eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer in accordance with MGL ch. 22 s.63
  • Candidates will be required to pass a comprehensive background check, psychological examination, and pre-employment medical exam
