This position is located with the United States Department (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), in the Foreign Arthropod-Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit (FABADRU), at the National Bio and Agro Defense Facility (NBAF), in Manhattan, Kansas. In this position, you will plan and coordinate the research activities of assigned and collaborating scientists and prepare the project plan and annual reports.
Job Responsibility
Identify, propose, and perform independent and collaborative research to achieve research objectives
Provide leadership and research skills to contribute to identification, description, and characterization of effects of foreign animal diseases in livestock
Develop molecular, clinical, and immunology techniques to understand virus-host interaction
Develop methods or therapies to minimize or avoid infection and disease
Organize research, establish research priorities, furnish leadership in planning research projects
Supervise execution of research, review research in progress, evaluate completed research, lead discussions on interpretation of results, report and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree
For GS-12: One year specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 in independent research on animal diseases and immunology of zoonotic viruses, OR Master's degree in related field, OR completion of two years internship/residency/fellowship
For GS-13: One year specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 in animal work for immunological analysis and independent research on zoonotic viruses of agricultural concern evidenced by publications, OR PhD in related field, OR three years internship/residency/fellowship, OR Board Certification
For GS-14: One year specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 leading immunology-based studies on zoonotic viral diseases with accomplishments in host-pathogen interactions evidenced by publications
For GS-15: One year specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 with international recognition as technical authority and leader in immunology of zoonotic viruses of agricultural concern and leading research that has received national/international awards
