Job Responsibility
Leading field crews for an extensive research project on greater prairie-chicken demography, space use, habitat selection, response to Conservation Reserve Program land, and response to annual prescribed fire.
Supervising daily activities of one to three Research Aides.
Requirements
Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent). Valid driver's license.
B.S. degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Statistics or equivalent field.
Demonstrated field sampling skills - in particular vegetation identification and structure measurement.
Experience in trapping and handling prairie grouse.
Familiarity with securely managing large data sets.
Working knowledge of GIS and OnX software, including ability to create and maintain feature class relationships.
Capable of working in extreme environmental conditions and walking across uneven terrain.
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to interface with a variety of private landowners and state/federal natural wildlife agencies.
Must be able to work in a collegial manner with field crews in common field housing.
At least one year of field research experience with prairie grouse or upland game birds.
Experience in identification of plant species in Kansas.
Experience in supervising field crews.
