Technical Associate I position in the Drosophila genetics & genomics laboratory of Professor Daven Presgraves in the Department of Biology, University of Rochester.
Job Responsibility:
Under general guidance and with latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, performs research related activities limited in scope and complexity in a specialized field
Provides direct research support and offers opportunity for future experimental and scientific development
This work will support the planning, design, and execution of experiments as well as direct studies
The Research Specialist will use existing protocols and will collaborate with other laboratories
Works independently with occasional input on modifying, varying or adapting standard laboratory procedures to meet special needs of research projects

Research responsibilities include conducting experimental work in molecular biology and Drosophila fruitfly genetics
Strong molecular biology expertise, trouble-shooting skills, and ability to work independently are essential

The Drosophila work may involve experimental genetics crosses, tissue dissections, and data collection

Personnel management duties involve training and overseeing undergraduate workers responsible for dishwashing and/or maintenance of the fly stock collection

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required
1 year of related work experience required involving direct assistance to researchers or equivalent combination of education and experience
Familiarity with MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Generate and organize large sets of data, strains, and plasmids, and should be familiar with all aspects of a laboratory to effectively help organize the lab
Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed
Excellent organization skills to help coordinate a number of projects, and the skills to help train inexperienced personnel
