Meta Reality Labs is seeking a Research Scientist Intern to explore novel optical solutions for AR devices. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Job Responsibility:
Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results
Present research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development
Develop next generation AR displays with an emphasis on advanced simulations and experimental optics prototyping to prove new concepts and understand the factors that impact them
Collaborate with the larger Meta Reality Labs Research team to explore novel solution spaces for AR devices
Explore the application of at least one of the following: geometrical optics, diffraction optics, illumination, optical system design
Requirements:
Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant technical field
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: physical optics, geometric optics, aberration theory, optical system design
2+ years of experience with experimental optics and conducting laboratory work, including demonstrated ability to construct proof-of-concept systems and evaluate performance
2+ years of experience with at least one scientific programming language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, etc)
Intent to return to the degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op
Nice to have:
2+ years of experience with optical design software such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V or similar
2+ years of experience in at least one of the following areas: holography, diffractive optics, wave optics
Experience working with holographic materials, spatial light modulators, and interferometric exposure tools
Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading journals and conferences
