Meta Reality Labs brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality. In addition to working within current paradigms to realize our vision, Reality Labs is heavily invested in materials research and development at the fundamental level. By collaborating with chemists, material scientists, and engineers, the successful candidate will contribute to the conceptualization and implementation of innovative physicochemical processes that will enable fabrication of novel anisotropic optical materials for specific applications in AR/VR and beyond.
Job Responsibility:
Lead designing, building and testing of novel solution-based and/or melt-based crystal growth processes for device-specific applications, and demonstrate proof of concepts in the lab
Perform process optimization to improve fabrication accuracy and yield using a combination of design of experiments (DOE) and engineering analysis/numerical simulations
Collaborate with the larger Meta Reality Labs Research team to holistically understand current goals, limitations, and bottlenecks in the wider AR/VR space
Requirements:
Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Optical Science, or relevant technical field
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
2+ years experience with conducting experimental laboratory work (i.e., demonstrated ability to take concepts, adapt them and translate them to the benchtop)
2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas: microfluidics, microscale interfacial fluid mechanics, evaporation and solidification, crystallization, electrohydrodynamics
Nice to have:
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at relevant high-impact journals
Experience working with multiphysics simulation tools such as COMSOL
Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op
