Job Description:

The Research Nurse will play a key, hands-on role in delivering high-quality clinical trials across the EMS Healthcare portfolio of studies, offering the opportunity to gain broad, varied experience across multiple therapeutic areas. This is an agile role, ideal for a nurse who enjoys variety, flexibility, and working across a diverse range of research projects rather than being tied to a single study. Working closely with the Regional Clinical Lead, you will be actively involved in the full participant journey, undertaking study visits in line with protocol requirements and ensuring the highest standards of clinical care, participant experience, and data integrity. You will support screening, enrolment, clinical assessments, and ongoing participant care, contributing directly to the successful delivery of EMS Healthcare’s research programmes. This role is well suited to an experienced research nurse who is keen to broaden their skill set, develop expertise across a wide research portfolio, and thrive in a supportive, fast-paced, and collaborative team environment. You will gain exposure to multiple studies simultaneously, making this an excellent opportunity for professional growth and continued development within clinical research. The successful candidate will be a patient-focused, adaptable professional with strong clinical skills, excellent organisational ability, and a clear commitment to Good Clinical Practice and the delivery of high-quality research. This is a permanent, full-time role based across the North West region, with a primary focus on Chester and the Wirral, and potential work across Manchester as required.

Job Responsibility:

  • Conduct study-specific clinical procedures and participant visits in accordance with the protocol, GCP, and EMS SOPs
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of case report forms, source documentation, and trial logs
  • Support the set-up and smooth running of the clinical research site, maintaining a safe and organised environment
  • Perform vital signs checks, ECGs, phlebotomy, and other study-related assessments as trained and required
  • Provide information and support to study participants, ensuring their informed consent and safety throughout the study
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Research Nurse and wider site team to meet recruitment and retention targets
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of clinical samples and study materials
  • Attend site meetings, training sessions, and contribute to ongoing quality improvement processes
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold data protection and regulatory requirements at all times
  • Escalate clinical or operational issues to the Senior Research Nurse or Clinical Research & Delivery Manager as appropriate

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with active NMC registration
  • Previous experience working in clinical research or trial delivery
  • Confident performing standard nursing procedures in a research or outpatient setting
  • Understanding of ICH-GCP and the clinical research process
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organised, methodical, and detail-oriented approach to documentation and care
  • Full UK residency and a valid driving licence
  • Ability to travel within the North West region if required
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional early starts or late finishes

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in community or mobile healthcare settings
  • Familiarity with studies involving obesity, metabolic health, or lifestyle interventions
  • Proficient with electronic data capture systems or clinical databases
What we offer:
  • Bank holidays, plus 25 days annual leave, increasing to 28 after 5 years
  • Buy & Sell Holidays
  • Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Leave
  • 1 Occasion Day each year
  • Healthshield
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Tech Scheme
  • Electric Car Scheme
  • Subsidised company events and gatherings
  • A gift for your birthday
  • Well being support from our qualified Mental Health First Aiders, as well as via our health scheme
