Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment. The Deep Learning Group at the Microsoft Research (MSR) Redmond lab drives foundational advances across agentic learning, post‑training and reasoning, and human–artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration. We work jointly with researchers across MSR and our product partners to ensure our work is both scientifically leading and connected to Microsoft product needs. Our team is seeking applicants for 2026 summer Research Internships focused on multi-agent simulation, collaborative AI agents, and simulation-based evaluation and training.

Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Information Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Economics, Operation Research or a related STEM field
At least 1 year of experience in conducting research and writing peer-reviewed publications
Research Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship
Actively conducting research in at least one of the following areas: Collaborative or Multi-party AI Agents, Reinforcement Learning (RLHF, RLVR, RFT), Multi-Agent Simulations (e.g. evaluating or training AI agents in collaborative settings), Synthetic data generation for LLM evaluation and fine-tuning, Understanding, verifying, or evaluating LLMs outputs, Agents (e.g. Memory, Goal management, Inter-Agent conversations)
Ability to collaborate effectively with your mentor and others in Microsoft on research projects
Proficient interpersonal and communication skills, cross-group, and cross-culture collaboration skills
