Job Responsibility:

  • Contribute to the research, design, and development of network transport features and telemetry systems for large scale data center and AI networking environments
  • Prototype solutions on real networking hardware
  • Utilize simulation or emulation tools to guide design
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across Microsoft
  • Engage early with mentors to formulate a plan of work
  • Clearly and frequently document and communicate progress
  • Show initiative and think unconventionally to derive creative and innovative solutions

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field
  • Background in computer networking with a strong understanding of transport protocols, congestion control
  • Experience with C/C++ like languages for network simulations
  • Familiarity with network simulation environments (e.g., htsim, NS3, OMNET++)
  • Skilled in Verilog/VHDL and prototyping with FPGAs/programmable ASICs
  • Experience building networked systems and programming networking hardware, e.g. NICs and/or switches in datacenters

Nice to have:

Experience in software and hardware network programming
