Job Responsibility:
Contribute to the research, design, and development of network transport features and telemetry systems for large scale data center and AI networking environments
Prototype solutions on real networking hardware
Utilize simulation or emulation tools to guide design
Collaborate with researchers and engineers across Microsoft
Engage early with mentors to formulate a plan of work
Clearly and frequently document and communicate progress
Show initiative and think unconventionally to derive creative and innovative solutions
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field
Background in computer networking with a strong understanding of transport protocols, congestion control
Experience with C/C++ like languages for network simulations
Familiarity with network simulation environments (e.g., htsim, NS3, OMNET++)
Skilled in Verilog/VHDL and prototyping with FPGAs/programmable ASICs
Experience building networked systems and programming networking hardware, e.g. NICs and/or switches in datacenters
Nice to have:
Experience in software and hardware network programming
