Job Description:

This role plays a pivotal part in advancing BSBI’s research agenda and contributing to its standing as a center of excellence in academia and innovation.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide guidance and support to postgraduate students throughout their final research projects (dissertations) in STEM disciplines, ensuring alignment with academic standards and programme requirements
  • Mentor postgraduate students in developing research proposals, selecting appropriate methodologies, and enhancing scholarly writing skills
  • Monitor the progress of research projects, offering constructive feedback and support to help students overcome challenges
  • Advise students on ethical considerations and research regulations relevant to their work
  • Spearhead the development and implementation of research strategies aligned with BSBI’s goals, focusing on all disciplines of the School
  • Identify and foster interdisciplinary research opportunities across different Faculties
  • Supervise and coordinate research initiatives at various faculties, ensuring alignment with the Institute’s vision
  • Manage research projects, including international collaborations such as Erasmus+, to enhance BSBI’s global research presence
  • Oversee and guide postgraduate students’ research activities, providing mentorship and ensuring alignment with academic standards
  • Collaborate with faculty members to support and enhance the research capabilities of postgraduate students
  • Foster collaborations with external partners, industry stakeholders, and research institutions to enhance BSBI’s research ecosystem
  • Represent BSBI in national and international research forums
  • Provide regular reports and updates on the progress and impact of dissertation supervision
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative research culture within the School
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in research and academia
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies for optimising research processes and outcomes
  • Actively participate in promotional activities to enhance the visibility and reputation of BSBI’s research endeavours
  • Collaborate closely with the Provost, and Deans of different Faculties for seamless integration of research activities within the overall academic framework
  • Supervising up to 130 dissertations per academic year according to the curriculum and the needs of the School

Requirements:

  • Master degree in an applicable STEM domain from a recognised institution
  • Strong working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Strong working knowledge of data modelling/analytics systems and frameworks
  • Strong working knowledge of research philosophies
  • Strong working knowledge of research foundations and platforms around the world
  • Strong working knowledge of the systems of scientific/academic publishers around the world
  • A number of publications in scientific journals and conferences
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education at the University level
  • Sound knowledge of Educational Platforms (i.e. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Sound knowledge of research regulations and rules
  • Sound knowledge of study regulations and rules
  • Prior experience in a similar academic position in a University
  • Very good knowledge of Windows OS, MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and Microsoft Teams
  • Fluent in spoken and written English (C2 level)
  • Very good organizational and communication skills
  • High social competence and assertiveness
