Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Research Facility Security Lead in the Nuclear Control Team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to support the commissioning, management and operation of our new alpha radionuclide research facility and will lead on enabling the smooth implementation of security compliance. You will hold delegated authority from the Nuclear Laboratory Control Manager for security decisions that affect security controls, design, security responses, and security implementation tasks. You will set security targets/key performance indicators and monitor progress against them. You will report directly to the Nuclear Laboratory Control Manager (NLCM) collaborating with other team members with expertise in Safety, Environmental, Health Physics, Programme Coordination, and with the associated Academic and Technical teams within a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Requirements:

  • Strong grasp of the security regulatory requirements commensurate with the role
  • Experience of holding delegated authority for security decisions
  • Experience of physical, information and personnel security requirements for operating secure facilities (ideally for higher-hazard facilities or for high-value assets)
  • Experience of specifying physical security protections and managing and documenting their examination, inspection, maintenance, and test requirements
  • Able to be part of an on-call rotor for emergency response

Nice to have:

  • Security qualifications (e.g. security management, certified protection professional, association with security institutes)
  • Experience implementing IAEA Security Informed Nuclear Safety arrangements at radiological facilities
  • Good general understanding of safety and environment and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of dealing with Government Security agencies and with regulators at all levels
  • Experience operating or maintaining secure facilities (laboratories, chemistry, biology or materials science/process engineering) and their compliance arrangements
