Job Description
Research Associate in ELSI in Rare Conditions. The UK Rare Disease Research Platform was established in 2023 with £14 million investment from the NIHR and the MRC. The ELSI Node includes projects led by the University of Manchester, the University of Oxford and Cardiff University. The Manchester team is exploring impact and outcomes in rare conditions clinical trials, with a focus on ensuring that patient and family perspectives shape research and policy-relevant outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated researcher to contribute to the University of Manchester’s work within the MRC/NIHR ELSI Node. The postholder will support research focused on rare conditions clinical trials, including qualitative and mixed-methods research, engagement with patients, family members, public contributors and professionals, support for study recruitment, research ethics applications, and analysis of research data. The role will also contribute to patient and public involvement and engagement activity and help ensure that lived experience informs the direction and impact of the research.

Requirements
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Genetic/Genomic Counselling, Genomic Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Medical Sociology or the Social Sciences)
experience of working with patients, public contributors, or vulnerable and marginalised groups
experience of qualitative research methods including interviewing and analysis
strong communication, organisational and collaborative working skills
a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area would be advantageous
